Historical Novels: Some Resources

I really enjoy the collection of reviews in the Historical Novel Society Newsletter, which I receive via email every two weeks (free). It’s a wonderful source for new reading material and has opened the path to many literary web sites, as well. Join the Yahoo Group to begin your journey. The society’s web site offers full membership and more info.

Another fun source: Historical Blogs: Fiction & Fact includes a lot of author’s and reader’s blogs that you may not find otherwise, and the links at the bottom are a great bonus!

The Langum Prize for American Historical Fiction in 2009 was awarded to Edward Rutherfurd for his New York: The Novel, published by Doubleday. Honorable mentions went to Elizabeth Cobbs Hoffman for In the Lion’s Den: A Novel of the Civil War and Jamie Ford for Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. It’s worth looking at past winners for descriptions and justifications.
