Review: Seventh Son

Seventh Son (Tales of Alvin Maker, #1)Seventh Son by Orson Scott Card

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Interesting but very slow going. This book is simply an introduction, but I expected (and wanted) a little more story instead of all backstory. The alternate American frontier is only slightly different from the real past, so it’s not a strange, new world you may enjoy, but instead, the forces at work within it are mysteriously good and bad. The characters are very well-drawn, as far as they go in this volume. I’ve had mixed reaction to the few books of Card’s that I’ve read, so I will need more to convince me of greatness.
