Stiger’s Tigers (Chronicles of An Imperial Legionary Officer Book 1)

Stiger's TIgers coverAuthor: Marc Alan Edelheit;
Genre: Military fantasy;
Format: Kindle ebook;
Publisher: Telemachus Press, LLC (2015).

This is a enjoyable fantasy based on the Roman Empire’s military with a very little magic thrown in. A strong main character and a simple story are strengths.

This is the first in a series (although there is also a prequel available) following a legion captain put in charge of a supply train to a military outpost in the middle of nowhere. He has to train his slovenly troops on the way with the help of a couple experienced sergeants, while his elf friend (in typical elf manner) scouts for enemies and gives him mysterious advice.

The captain has a rather interesting history, most of the other characters are fairly standard, and nothing too unexpected happens. I liked the story and anticipate the next volume showing more experience from this author. I’d like to see better editing in future installments; there were quite a few repetitious phrases and missing words in the Kindle version.

Contains: Violence applicable to the story; no foul language; no sex.
